NYS Senate

I just filled out an email form to Senator Breslin and "the Bronx Guy" Espada.

I encouraged Senator Breslin to find a solution, and for Espada to give up his pipe dream of being leader of the Senator and get back to work.

My Facebook posting reads: Maybe I was confused when I voted, but I thought state senators are supposed to pass legislation, not fuck around.

Church

I'm a bit shocked that my hometown church is merging with another local Catholic church. I haven't been to church since I moved to Canada three years ago, but I've always felt at home in it. St. Francis de Sales, with all the craziness that went on there, helped me cope with the death of my friend when I was 15. I would be very sad to see it go. From what this bulletin says, the transition team hasn't chosen which location it will keep.

Hmm.

Tech Stuff

The network card for my desktop hasn't arrived yet... so I've been using my laptop. Now, I know I sound like a spoiled brat, but it's been hard living without my desktop. My aunts bought me a beautiful screen for my wedding and I just love the set-up. Sigh. *end of my spoiled girl rant*

I've been using my dad's cellphone, but I forget a have it, so it's run out of battery and I never check it for messages. I changed the greeting on the phone so it's now my voice and I changed the ring tone. I also took a picture of Tina to use as the wallpaper.. though I was fond of Hoover's picture. :-)

I bought two new phones from Target. They work beautifully. Now there's a phone in our bedroom and our office, so we don't have to steal them from other rooms. I really like that these handsets can function as a speaker phone, which is great when you're on hold with businesses.

No More Fox News

Denis gets riled up by the Fox News crap, so I deleted it from the channel surfing menu.

Gare Centrale

I'm in Montreal at Gare Centrale, the train station. It's beautiful! It's full of chain shops and restaurants, but looks quaint.

I'm not exactly excited about my 8 hours train ride, but I think it'll be better than a 6 hour bus ride...

Oh, and I have two things of peanut butter to declare. The officer will think I'm nuts!

Cancer and Canada..

There was a big story that broke last week in Quebec that reported 15-30% of women were possibly misdiagnosed when it came to appropriate treatments for breast cancer. From what I understand, all these women were correctly diagnosed with breast cancer, but the further testing that is needed to determine which treatment is the best, well... it's a crapshoot.

Bureaucracy isn't always the solution, but apparently there's no quality-control assurances when it comes to these pathology labs. Large teaching hospitals are obviously more equipped to diagnose and maintain internal standards... but there's concern that in other parts of the province there isn't enough quality control. And, women may have received treatments that were (possibly) inadequate for the type of breast cancer they had.

Sigh.
